DO NOT MISS OUT! AMAZING THINGS ARE COMING!

The Nightmare Treatment Imperative

There are many reasons to talk about your nightmares, to rescript them, and to seek treatment if they cause you significant distress. These intense dreams can be seen as your own body’s attempt to integrate the trauma you have suffered, but to realize this helpful effect, you must work with the dreams rather than avoiding them.
Why should you take this short focused course?

Current research on various fronts suggests that if your clients are suffering from frequent nightmares, it is both imperative and fairly simple to treat them. Like PTSD, they do not go away on their own, but rather, the best predictor of future nightmares is having current ones! They are not to be taken lightly because they cause a number of distressing symptoms in and of themselves, and secondarily wreak havoc on sleep and mood.

Those who suffer from nightmares often do so in silence – only 1 in 8 people reach out for help according to one study. People fear being a burden, or being seen as highly disturbed if they share the content of the darkest dreams.

The good news is that nightmares can be easily treatable. One recent nightmare treatment study compared three conditions – Imagery Rehearsal Therapy (IRT), exposure and a control condition – and found that everything helped, even the control condition (imagining a safe place). The results of the three interventions were significant and virtually indistinguishable, and results were evident after just one treatment session.

It appears that almost anything you do has the potential to be helpful. However, I believe there are a number of things clinicians need to know to ensure your nightmare treatment is both effective and safe.
The following will be covered in this short course:

Understanding the difference between the two main types of nightmares, and how and why to treat them differently.

Understanding the relationship between the content of PTSD nightmares and clinical progress, and using this information as an indication of how to begin treatment

Knowing how to employ basic trauma treatment skills to keep nightmare sufferers in the ‘window of tolerance’ as they process their nightmares.

Having a sense of the tremendous transformative energy present in idiopathic nightmares and how to bring about tangible change using this powerful dream material.

Developing the ability to see and work with the metaphorical qualities of idiopathic nightmares, which assists in shifting the dreamer’s attitude toward their challenging dreams.
All of above information will be based on current research, as well as on my own doctoral research and depth of understanding I acquired in developing and testing a focusing-oriented treatment of recurrent nightmares for refugees suffering from severe PTSD symptoms. Much of what you will learn is will be based on brand new information, not yet published as I continue to converse with nightmare experts worldwide
